Principles of ACT and Parent Training: Value-Based Approach

Abstract:
Prior research has demonstrated both the efficacy of behavioral parent training in effectively teaching parent skill implementation; and of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) base training program in improving perceived parenting abilities. The purpose of the presentation will be to assess current BCBA perspectives towards difficult parent training and using ACT principles to achieve more collaborative and efficient parent training strategies. ACT based training component, following a behavior parent training, in increasing participant integrity of skill implementation will all be addressed.
Objectives:
1. Participants will learn about the principles of ACT
2. Participants will identify ethical and effective strategies toward parent training
3. Participants will identify current behavior that may be a barrier to effective parent training
