Abstract: This professional development training will define and differentiate gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation specific to the transgender and gender-nonconforming community. Relevant research and data will be presented to highlight the unique needs of transgender individuals and common barriers that impact their quality of life. Specific action steps will be outlined to promote an inclusive environment and improve cultural sensitivity among professionals in the workplace, with a highlight on navigating pronouns.

Objectives: Participants will be able to identify the difference between gender identity, sex, gender expression, and sexual orientation. Participants will be able to discuss specific challenges transgender individuals face at an organizational level. Participants will be able to identify specific environmental modifications organizations can make to create an inclusive environment and improve gender diversity and affirmation within their workplace.
